"My most strategic move was to be non-threatening to folks. Some of the people never had a relationship with a black woman, so they didn't know what to expect from me. I surprised them. I always kept it real. I didn't allow anyone to intimidate me. I know how people think and feel so I always kept that in mind. This was 2001 and a new experiment for folks. When people feel threatened they get nervous and anything can happen."
