Five Facts about Kurt Sutter

If you are a fan of Sons of Anarchy the names Jax (Charlie Hunnam), Gemma (Katey Sagal), and Chibs (Tommy Flanagan) should be a part of your Wednesday morning water cooler discussion. Well, the name Kurt Sutter should also be included in those conversations. The Sons of Anarchy creator, and the guy who plays Big Otto, was all the buzz on the internet when he announced via Twitter that he would be writing Jax's father's transcript "The Life and Times of Sam Crow." It will be released the day after the season 7 series finale airs in 2014. Here are five fun facts you may not have known about the man behind your favorite guilty pleasure.

1. Kurt Sutter was a writer, producer, story editor, actor, and director for the gritty FX drama The Shield. Sutter's first episode he penned was the fifth outing from the first season entitled, "Blowback." He also appeared as hitman Margos Dezerian in that same episode. Sutter was credited as a staff writer on three episodes prior to this.

2. Kurt Sutter is married to Sons of Anarchy star Katey Sagal. They were married on October 2, 2004 and the couple have a daughter named Esme that was born in January of 2007. Sagal also has two other children from a previous marriage born in 1994 and 1996 that Sutter helps raise.

3. Kurt Sutter was nominated for a 2009 Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music for the pilot episode of Sons of Anarchy. In 2013, Sutter won a American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) award for Top Television Series. He shares the honor with Dave Kusher, Curtis Stigers, and Bob Thiele whom all been credited for writing the theme song "This Life" for Sons of Anarchy.

4. Kurt Sutter is active on many social media outlets. He currently has over 300,000 foll0wers on Twitter (Tweet him @sutterink) and over 100,000 likes on his Facebook page: SutterInk. He also has his own blog: sutterink.blogspot.com that he has been posting on since 2007.

5. Kurt Sutter is currently working on creating another show for FX.  This time the show will be a sitcom with the working title Diva. Clown. Killer. A pilot was ordered back in 2012 and will possibly star wife, Sagal. The project is described as a dark comedy focusing on an 80's rock diva and her son who works as a clown by day and an assassin by night.

HIMYM 9.07 Review

I didn’t think How I Met Your Mother was going to be able to feature any holiday themes episodes this season.  This was due to the fact that the entire season takes places during Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) and Robin’s (Cobie Smulder) wedding weekend.  I am under the impression the wedding weekend takes place during the month of May, which meant viewers could have been treated to a very special Mother’s Day tribute.  The latest installment entitled, “No Questions Asked,” was able to pull off an eerie Halloween theme without it even being October.

The episode picked up right where last week’s show left off.  Daphne (Sherri Shepherd) has just texted Lily (Alyson Hannigan) the news that Marshall (Jason Segel) had accepted a judgeship in the United States.  This would interfere with Lily’s plans of moving to Italy to further her art career.  Lily phones Marshall, but not because of the text but to tell him they are staying in haunted room #13.

Captain Deerduff had been staying in that room and froze to death.  Now it is believe his ghost haunts the room.  Lily does not believe in ghosts but does notice that the room is cold, the shower drips, and the lock does not work. The front desk clerk blames this all on Deerduff while Lily thinks it is laziness from the hotel staff.

In order to get the text message deleted from Lily’s phone, Marshall seeks help from his three closest friends.  First to arrive on the scene is Ted (Josh Radnor).  He climbs through Lily’s hotel room which startles Lily.  He decides to help Marshall out “No questions asked” because Marshall rescued Ted from a mailbox.  I thought his gag seemed really farfetched, but was relieved that in the closing credits when it showed Ted climbing into the mailbox due to a careless mailman leaving the front unlocked.  Ted sings Lily a song to go back to sleep but cannot find her phone.  Then Barney enters the scene.

Barney also had a “No questions asked” agreement with Marshall.  He tried to swallow life sized objects that are the charms in Lucky Charms.  He also deuced his pants in Macy’s, so Marshall has a lot of dirt on him.  While the two look for Lily’s phone, room service arrives and gives Lily a $300 bill.  She leaves to go complain to the front desk. When she exits, Robin rolls out from under the cart.  She had sought assistance from Marshall when she was on an undercover mission and known as Night Falcon.  While Lily is downstairs the trio figures out where cell phone is: in her bathrobe.

Ted saved the day!  He rushes downstairs and tells Lily to smash her phone “No questions asked.”  Previously, Ted had to save Lily after she was tied up by her kindergartners.  This was by far the funniest of the flashbacks from the episode.  Lily obliges and destroys the phone.  Ted reports back to Marshall to tell him the good news.  Ted then adds that Marshall must have thousands of his own “No questions asked” scenarios with his wife.  Marshall thinks about for a few seconds and realizes he does not have any.  Lily is the one person he shares everything with and has no secrets.

In the end, Marshall does tell Lily his news.  Her only response is though she does not believe in ghosts, someone is “going to die” in their hotel room this weekend.  Viewers are left with yet another cliff hanger to a truly superb episode and an overall excellent final season.  The ratings are still high and so are the laughs!

ABC in talks to resurrect "Body of Proof"

Fans of the Dana Delany drama Body of Proof may be hearing some good news in the weeks to come. Deadline has reported that the ABC drama may be back for a fourth season. This is due largely in part to the weak ratings for freshmen shows Betrayal, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, and the already canceled Lucky 7.

Body of Proof averaged 10.9 million viewers in its third season. The latest episode of Wonderland garnered a measly 4.5 million viewers while Betrayal posted even worse numbers at 3.6 million viewers. Scandal reruns have been shown in the spot vacated by Lucky 7 and are bringing in a little less than 3 million viewers.

It is still unclear if Dana Delany or Mark Valley would return for another go around. Our questions should be answered soon as ABC will continue to monitor the success of their new shows including struggling comedies Super Fun Night and Back in the Game that were just awarded two additional scripts.

"Parks and Recreation" takes a brief hiatus

Last week, NBC announced that it had cancelled Freshmen shows Ironside and Welcome to the Family. The one important piece of news The Peacock network forgot to mention: It will also be putting comedy Parks and Recreation on a hiatus until early 2014.

Only four more episodes are scheduled to air in 2013, 2 on November 14th and 2 on November 21st. One of the episodes will be a Halloween themed show. The time slot vacated by Parks and Recreation will be filled by The Voice, an SNL clip show, and a live version of The Sound of Music starring Carrie Underwood.

The other two comedies currently on Thursday nights: Sean Saves the World and The Michael J. Fox Show are struggling to find an audience and may not last the full season.  Community will replace Welcome to the Family, but there has been no mention of what will fill the void if the other comedies get the ax.

Parks and Recreation will return on January 9th.

Ellen Pompeo Opens Up

Fans of Grey's Anatomy received some saddening news earlier this year when star Sandra Oh confirmed she would be exiting the show at the end of the 10th season. Luckily, Ellen Pompeo doesn't have a desire to leave the drama that made her famous. In a recent interview with the New York Post, Pompeo stated, "Actors always think the grass is greener somewhere else — I didn’t want to do that. I have an amazing life and it’s all because I didn’t leave Grey’s Anatomy.”

Pompeo also opened up about the exits of series regulars Isaiah Washington and Katherine Heigl. "Hurt feelings, combined with instant success and huge paychecks started things spinning out of control,” she remembered. “I started to focus on the work."

Pompeo also confirmed that Washington wanted the role of Dr. Derek Shepard, the role that Patrick Dempsey would take. She thought it was too close to her own life since Pompeo is married to African-American music producer Chris Ivery.

The departure of Katherine Heigl was difficult for Pompeo. "You could understand why she wanted to go — when you’re offered $12 million a movie. Katie should not have [extended] her contract. She took a big raise and then tried to get off the show. Then her movie career did not take off.”
