HIMYM News

Were you wondering when would Marshall ever make it to the Farhampton Inn on How I Met Your Mother? It has been confirmed Marshall will end his long journey on the episode that is slated to air on December 16th. Also, The New Normal star Andrew Rannells will guest star on this episode. He will play Darren, a guy who shows up at Barney and Robin's wedding weekend. It appears he will be causing some trouble among the core group of friends. This episode will most likely be the final episode of 2013.

Revenge Spoiler!

Since Revenge was not on tonight, I thought it would be nice to share some upcoming character spoilers for the show. Three new people will be visiting the Hamptons in the episodes to come. Patrick's father, Jimmy, should be making an appearance around episode 13. The visit will be unnerving to Victoria, which will work perfectly in Emily's scheme. Victoria will also be upset by the new character Stevie, who was Conrad's first wife. Expect her to be up to no good on her "vacation." Daniel and Sara have grown very close recently. The one person who is most upset about this is Loretta, Sara's mother. She hasn't gotten over the fact that Daniel almost killed her daughter. Looks like the intensity we have been watching this season on Revenge won't be letting up any time soon.

Grey's Anatomy Spoiler

Fan who are dying for April and Jackson to get together on Grey's Anatomy may be upset to find out that April WILL be marrying Matthew. Her three sisters played by Emily Happe, Elizabeth Bond, and Grace Bannon will make the evening a night to remember.

It has also been confirmed that episode 10, which will air tomorrow evening, will be directed by Debbie Allen who plays Jackson's mother and Dr. Webber's love interest.

More drama is on the way for Callie and Arizona. Callie will eventually find out about Arizona and Leah's relationship. It is how Callie finds out that will trigger the drama. Also, don't expect Callie to be jumping in bed with anyone anytime soon. She still has a lot of issues that need to be worked out first.

Mindy Project 2.08 Review

If you read my review of last week’s The Mindy Project (and I hope you did!), you may remember that I discussed the concept of characters texting one another on the show.  When Mindy (Mindy Kaling) sends a message to a friend or current love interest, the text box conversation appears on the screen as it would on the phone.  This idea really does set itself apart from the other comedies out there.  The latest episode entitled, “You’ve Got Sext” featured this method and also my favorite The Office alum: Ellie Kemper.
The episode begins with Mindy looking so rough even Morgan (Ike Barinholz) would not sleep with her.  As the two board an elevator, Cliff (Glenn Howerton) and an attractive woman join them.  Mindy finds out her name is Yana and she is a butt model.  Plus, she was a runner up in the Miss Universe pageant, which means she is the second most beautiful woman in the world.  This upsets Mindy because she secretly likes Cliff and she is not even the second most beautiful woman on the floor of their building. Those are her words not mine!
Mindy realizes her purse is missing and has no way to get into her apartment.  She decides to stay the night at Danny’s (Chris Messina) place.  She also takes this time to confide inDanny about her secret crush on Cliff.  Without revealing any names Mindy admits that the guy works in the same building and that he is out of her league.  The two descriptors make Danny believe he is the one Mindy is pining over.
Mindy’s purse is quickly found, but by Morgan and Max… I mean Peter (Adam Pally).  The Happy Endings character is so similar to Peter; I sometimes forget what show I am watching.  They look at her cell and notice that she has a text from Cliff.  Peter announces that if a girl does not text a guy back very shortly after the text is sent, the guy will move on.  This begins a PG-13 text conversation between Cliff and “Mindy.”  After a bit of flirting and winky faces, “Mindy” says she is not wearing any panties.  Cliff responds that he will be right over.  Panic ensues as Morgan and Peter try to figure out how to cover up their mistake.
They decide to throw a party at Mindy’s apartment to get Cliff to believe she is actually there but just entertaining other guests.  Morgan and Peter spend the majority of their time keeping Cliff preoccupied while still texting him from Mindy’s phone.  “Mindy” texts Cliff to say she is in the bathroom because she wants to make sure she is clean for him.  This seems to work for a few hours, but Cliff gets fed up and goes to the bathroom door to confess his true interest in Mindy.  He likes her and wants to get to know her.  He opens the door and finds an empty bathroom.  Morgan and Peter break the news.  Cliff asks the texts be deleted and leaves.  Before he exits, he bumps into Heather (Kemper).  They go back to her place to hook up.
While the party is happening, Mindy and Danny must deal with his crazy neighbor.  Danny admits to having slept with her, but wants nothing more to do with her.  Mindy pretends to be his fiancé and be pregnant with his child.  The neighbor shows up in Danny’s apartment unannounced.  She is furious Danny is “cheating” on her.  She quickly gets over it after seeing how Danny looks into Mindy’s eyes and the fact that Mindy is “clearly pregnant.”
Back at the office, Danny declares that Mindy’s crush is not out of her league.  She concurs and says she is going to call Cliff.  Danny is surprised that she was referring about Cliff and not him.  Mindy is too excited to notice  Does this mean there is a future for Mindy and Danny or will the two stay apart for a few more seasons and get together in the end?

The episode concludes with Mindy recovering her purse and all of its contents, which includes her phone.  She received a voicemail from Heather indicating her and Cliff had an amazing time at her party, as well as all the texts from Cliff.  Hopefully next week’s episode will answer all of our questions from this amazingly funny episode.

"Friends" Quote of the Week

Chandler: You know, I'm really glad we decided not to sleep together before the wedding.
Monica: Me too.
Chandler: You know, I was, uh, thinking. If you and I had a big fight and broke up for a few hours...
Monica: Yeah?
Chandler: Technically we could have sex again. So, what do you think... bossy and domineering?
Monica: The wedding's off, sloppy and immature.
[they get up]
Monica: Oh, wait. We can't, my cousin Cassie is in the guest room.
Chandler: Well, get rid of her, obsessive and shrill.
Monica: Shrill? The wedding's back on.

HIMYM 9.09 Review

It is now only 31 hours until How I Met Your Mother’s Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) and Robin (Cobie Smulders) tie the knot.  Naturally, when it comes so close to saying “I do” the couple will reminisce about the past. That was the case in the latest new episode entitled, “Platonish.” Instead of thinking about lovey dovey moments between the bride and groom, we get a glimpse of Barney doing what he does best: accepting a challenge.
Lily (Alyson Hannigan) and Robin have challenged Barney to ask a girl out only speaking like a dolphin.  Of course Barney agrees. After a short time, he has actually found a girl desperate enough to give him her phone number.  Robin calls the girl back and insists she become celibate after giving her digits to a man only speaking like a dolphin.
Now Barney is on to Challenge #2.  This time he must pick up a girl wearing a garbage bag over his suit. Sounds easy right? He also is not allowed to use the letter E. Viewers are then treated to a hilarious montage of Barney speaking to women without using the most common letter in the alphabet.  This means he cannot even say his own name or the word “yes.”  After multiple failed attempts, he scores a phone number, much to the chagrin of his female friends.
The challenges keep coming.  They make me long for the earlier years when Barney was a single man.  However, it is nice that the character has developed so much over the years.  For challenge #3, Robin heads down to MacLaren’s and approaches a cute red head.  She insists that she is Ryan Gosling’s assistant.  She tells the woman that Ryan spotted her from across the pub, but is too nervous to approach her.  Before Mr. Gosling works up the courage to talk to her, she must refrain from speaking with any other men until that time.  Robin returns to Lily’s apartment and tells Barney to hit on the red head sitting at the bar. Believe it or not, Barney convinces the girl he is in fact Ryan Gosling and receives her digits.
By Challenge #4, Lily and Robin are growing tired of the game.  This time they challenge Barney to pick up a girl after buying diapers (Lily is out for baby Marvin) and take out (Robin is hungry).  Barney accepts the challenge and head out.  At the drug store he bumps into “The Mother.”  He tries to pick her up and she declines.  They talk for a few minutes and she convinces him to go after his true love: Robin.  He goes home and begins to write a new play for The Playbook.  This is the play he used to win her back and the one we witnessed in season 8.
The Ted (Josh Radnor) and Marshall (Jason Segal) storyline takes place at a Washington Generals game.  You may be asking yourself, “Who are the Washington Generals?”  They are an exhibition basketball team that plays in the same league as the Harlem Globetrotters. They have a long streak of losing to the New York team.  Ted and Marshall are diehard fans regardless of the fact they can’t win.
Marshall tries to convince Ted that he needs to get back with Robin.  Ted insists they are just platonic, but after speaking with Marshall he now knows they are “Platonish.”  The Ted/Robin storyline has grown tiresome over the course of the show’s run.  It is unnecessary to talk about, especially now that we know Robin is not the Mother.  You could have skipped this whole part of the episode and not missed anything except for the fact that Robin hated olives and now likes them.

Bryan Cranton reprises his role as Hammond Druthers. He phones Ted and tries to coax him into working for his architecture firm in Chicago.  Ted turns him down, stating he needs to take care of things in New York.  Viewers are lead to believe he is referring to getting Robin back.  Let’s hope the Ted/Robin story gets put to rest and the show starts to concentrate more on Ted and The Mother.  Afterall, the show is called How I Met Your Mother and not How I Keep Going After Robin.

CW gives every new show a full season!

The CW just ordered a full season pick up for its three freshmen drama: The Originals, The Tomorrow People, and Reign. It was almost a given that the network would grant a full season to The Vampire Diaries spin-off. The Originals has averaged 2.7 million viewers in the 18-49 demo. Plus, the network needed to keep at least one new drama due to low ratings for sophomore shows The Carrie Diaries and Beauty and the Beast.

The Tomorrow People is averaging 2.4 million viewers, while Reign has been averaging 2.1 million viewers. Since Reign has the lowest numbers, many assumed it would get the ax to pave way for the drama Star Crossed. It is like Twilight, but with aliens. Another drama in the pipeline is The 100. The concept is Lost  meets Avatar.

The goal of the network is to air original programming all year long and by keeping all three dramas around they hope to achieve this goal.

How "The Big Bang Theory" Became #1

It is hard to believe that it has been 6 years since The Big Bang Theory made it to the airwaves. Who knew a comedy about two geeky scientists living next door to a hot chick would be ratings gold? The Chuck Lorre creation is currently in its seventh season and is the number one rated comedy. The season premiere that aired in September nabbed 20.44 million viewers. So how did the show became such a hit? Here are a few reasons as to why:

Big Name Guest-Stars - When The Big Bang Theory premiered, the biggest names associated with the show were Johnny Galecki, who had starred on Roseanne for six seasons, and Kaley Cuoco, who appeared on the comedy 8 Simple Rules and was on the final season of Charmed. In order to attract viewers to the new comedy, some famous names popped up in season 1. Roseanne alumni Sara Gilbert and Laurie Metcalf appeared as Leslie Winkle and Mrs. Cooper, respectively. Gilbert would become a series regular in season 2 and appear through season 3. Season 2 welcomed The Good Wife's Christine Baraksnki as Leonard's mother. Other famous guest stars through the series' run include Bob Newhart, Sara Rue, Katee Sackhoff, George Takei, and Leonard Lemoy among others.

The Writer's Strike - The Big Bang Theory faced a big problem during its first season: The Writer's Strike. Television writers believed they were being underpaid for DVD residuals and walked out in 2007. The 100-day strike cost the industry an estimated $1.5 billion and resulted in many shows in their first season being cancelled. Remember Big Shots and The Bionic Woman? The Big Bang Theory aired 8 episodes prior to the strike. The hiatus gave the writers a chance to develop their characters more and the remaining 9 episodes of the season featured a funnier Penny and gave Sheldon and Leonard their own identities.  Though the show ranked 68 overall, CBS liked the changes made after the strike and renewed the show for a second season. Season 2 saw a 2 million increase in viewers.

Comic Con - In order to increase their target audience, The Big Bang Theory cast and writers have been attending Comic Con since 2008. The convention started in the 70's and focused mainly on comic books. Over the years, the convention has included other elements related to the genre like video games, movies, and TV shows.  The Big Bang Theory cast will host a panel discussion and answer questions from the audience. They will also reveal spoilers to upcoming seasons to increase interest in the show. The concept has proven beneficial. The show has seen an uptick of roughly 3 million viewers each season since heading to the convention.

Syndication and DVD release - In 2011, The Big Bang Theory began airing in syndication on both TBS and FOX. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays viewers can catch at least six episodes of their favorite comedy. This does not include the new episode that airs Thursday nights. Syndication gives a show a chance for new viewers to watch it from the very beginning, As a result, these new viewers will also start watching the new episodes. Since the show has been in syndication, ratings have increased by 5 million viewers. DVD releases are another facet new viewers can turn to to become a fan. I started watching The Big Bang Theory in 2010 after a friend purchased the first season on DVD as a gift. I have been hooked ever since.

Chuck Lorre - If Chuck Lorre's name is on something, it will most likely be a ratings success. Lorre is the man behind other hits Two and a Half Men, Mike & Molly, and the new comedy Mom. The huge success of Two and a Half Men helped bring viewers to The Big Bang Theory who hoped they would be laughing as hard as they did from watching Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer.

There are countless reasons that can contribute to why The Big Bang Theory is the hottest show currently on TV. One could even say it is just because it is so funny. Whatever the reason, the show is being watched by more people than ever and does not show any signs of letting up. Contracts for the actor's do expire at the end of season 7, but it would be insane if CBS didn't renew the #1 comedy for another season, or two, or three.
